Smartamine® M & MetaSmart® are two key products of Adisseo’s SmartLine™, that enable animal feed professionals such as nutrition consultants, feed manufacturers, and premix companies to deliver nutritional solutions to their customers. These products contain methionine, an essential nutrient, that is known to enable:

1. Milk production with increased protein and higher fat
2. Greater feed efficiency
3. Better metabolic health and reproduction

Methionine is key to meeting requirements for milk performance and also plays essential roles in other metabolic functions. These include helping to ensure optimum reproductive performance and liver function. Supplying adequate quantities of methionine is critical for transition cows to eat adequate amounts to meet their energy needs for production while helping to minimize metabolic issues such as fatty liver and ketosis.

Methionine is an essential nutrient and generally is the first limiting amino acid for dairy cows. Meeting methionine requirements results in higher production, better metabolic health, and improved reproduction performance.

Because the methionine content of feedstuffs is generally low, supplemental methionine should be fed to meet the cow’s nutritional requirements. This allows the proper balance of amino acids to be achieved in the ration at an optimal feed cost, helps reduce nitrogen excretion, and helps improve production, health, and reproduction.

Smartamine® M
Rumen-protected source of metabolizable methionine, an essential nutrient, for increased milk yield, fat, and protein.

Smartamine® M, the best-in-class rumen-protected methionine product, provides a concentrated source of metabolizable methionine (mMet) for use in precisely balancing the methionine levels in dairy rations. As an essential nutrient for dairy cows, methionine positively impacts milk components (milk volume, milk fat, and milk protein yield), health, and reproduction. When amino acid levels are properly balanced, the total protein level fed can decrease. The pH-sensitive encapsulation that protects Smartamine® M from rumen degradation breaks apart in the abomasum, fully releasing the methionine for absorption in the small intestine. This enables the absorption of methionine in the small intestine for passage into the bloodstream and is used by the cow.

Nutrition consultants, premix companies, and feed manufacturers use Smartamine® M as an innovative solution in nutritional strategies. This product is commonly used to allow a dairy herd’s production performance to be realized, as well as more of the herd’s full genetic potential.

MetaSmart®
A protected analogue of methionine, an essential nutrient, for increased milk yield and components.

A unique source of specific, pelletable methionine for ruminants. MetaSmart® delivers excellent bio-availability and provides the needed methionine for the rumen microorganisms. Supplemental methionine helps limit metabolic problems. This promotes peak milk, saves costs, and reduces early culling.

MetaSmart® an ester of the analogue of methionine, is a unique feed ingredient and patented molecule from Adisseo. It is designed to optimize amino acid balancing in dairy cow rations and; and can be utilized in multiple types of feeds including pelleted and liquid feed for ruminants.
MetaSmart® delivers two modes of action:

Rumen Wall Absorption (50% bioavailable): 50% of MetaSmart® is absorbed across the rumen wall to provide the supplementary methionine necessary to optimize milk protein synthesis and metabolic health.
Rumen Activation (50% bioavailable): 50% of MetaSmart® is hydrolyzed in the rumen to the analog of methionine. The analog has been shown to positively benefit rumen fermentation, increasing feed energy contribution and microbial protein supply.

As per the scheme above, only MetaSmart supplies methionine for both the animal’s requirements: It’s 50% bioavailable and 50% rumen active.

RumenSmart™
A concentrated source of ruminally active 2-hydroxy-4 (methylthio) butanoic acid (HMTBa) for increased milk and milk fat.

RumenSmart™ is a fine granular powder with superior flow characteristics. The homogeneity of RumenSmart™ ensures excellent distribution in dairy rations. RumenSmart™ contains HMTBa which increases milk fat production and mitigates diet-induced milk fat depression. It acts in the rumen where it reduces the impact of dietary risk factors that lead to diet-induced milk fat depression. This product is not a source of metabolizable methionine (mMet). Feed RumenSmart™ at 0.12% ( 0.10% HMTBa) of dry matter for an optimal inclusion rate.

SELISSEO®
Pure organic selenium in feed supplement.

Selisseo® contains 100% hydroxy-selenomethionine (OH-SeMet), a pure and highly available form of organic selenium. Selenium (Se) is an essential nutrient for life, and it has been established that 0.1-0.3 ppm is necessary to support basic functions. Although inorganic Se sources, such as sodium selenite, are commonly used as feed supplements, recent research has confirmed that organic Se sources, and in particular selenomethionine (SeMet) or OH-SeMet, are absorbed much more easily. On average Selenium Yeast products contain 60% SeMet and the amount of SeMet varies from batch to batch, while Selisseo® consistently provides 100% OH-SeMet.
